Well done
to players who took part in 2007,
and good Chess
to players who intend to take part in 2008.
Introduction
This is intended to be an easy to understand guide to the UK Chess Challenge, so that local players have some idea of what to expect when they take part.
A full copy of the rules etc can be found on the UK Chess Challenge website www.ukchesschallenge.com
Schools & Clubs It all starts with a competition either in your school or chess club.
Different schools will hold their competitions at different times, but they should all be completed by the end of April.
During the competition, you will play seven games against seven opponents.
After each game has finished, you will score:
- 3 points for a win,
- 2 points for a draw (stalemate also counts as a draw),
- 1 point for a loss,
- 0 if you are absent.
- If there are an odd number of players in your competition, and you don't have to play in one of the rounds (this is called a bye), you score 3 points.
|
| Prizes |
|
While you are competing, you will be given a prize when your total score reaches or passes:
3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18 and 21 points.
There is also a prize for the tournament winner, and a jackpot prize if you win all your games (21 points).
