Age

For the NYCA Inter-Association Championships held in September and November 2009, your age will be based on how old you are at midnight at the end of 31st August, 2009.

How is it run?

These NYCA Championships are not knockout tournaments.  Your team will be given points after each game according to the result.

National Youth Chess Association

This section is here to help promote some of the chess events organised by NYCA (The National Youth Chess Association).  Just as EPSCA organise and run events to promote and encourage chess for children of primary school age (up to 11), so NYCA organise and run events to promote and encourage players from 11 to 18.

NYCA's Inter-Association Championships are national competitions for teams of players to represent their area and compete against similar teams from other parts of the country.  This page is intended to give you an idea of what to expect if you are interested in taking part in one of those Championships.  Full details can obtained from Traci Whitfield.  Contact details in the right hand column.

NYCA's Inter-Association Championships are divided into four sections: Under 18, Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12.  Each section is a one day competition, played on Saturday or Sunday some time between late September and November each year.

Rate of play.
Each player is expected to use a chess clock and has

    45 minutes to complete all moves
in each game.

How many players in a team?
Under 18 section: 8 players in a team.

Under 16 section: 8 players in a team.

Under 14 section: 12 players in a team.

Under 12 section: 12 players in a team.

Prizes.
Members of the winning team and team finishing second in each section of each championship will receive trophies / salvers.

Further prizes may be available and will depend upon how many take part.

What is the timetable?
Each tournament lasts from roughly 11am to 6pm.

There are usually 4 rounds:

Round 1 11.00 - 12.30 pm
Round 2 12.45 - 2.15 pm
Round 3 2.30 - 4.00 pm
Round 4 4.15 - 5.45 pm

Each player plays one game per round.  Each round is followed by a break for refreshments etc.

Under 18 & Under 14 Championships
Sunday

Under 16 & Under 12 Championships
Saturday
7th November, 2009.
