| Events Calendar |
|
30 August
Anyone who uses the events calendar page may like to know that the top right hand side of the page will now change depending on which day of the week you visit.
Today (bank holiday Monday) there is an item on the England U11 Team trials starting in October. Tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be an article on the Primary Schools Championships.
Those articles have been included to help you find out about events that might interest you.
Once an event has taken place, that article will be replaced by something about a different event.
These changes do not effect the date shown on the left hand side of the page.
That will still show when the calendar itself was last updated.

17 July
Congratulations to everyone who took part in last weekend's Gigafinal in Manchester.
From Victoria Holland competing in the under 6 section and her brother Daniel, right up to Andrew Smith in the under 18s, we are really proud of you all.
Well done!
Five players did well enough to go on to the Terafinal being held in Warwick during August.
Finishing top in their age group were Skye Wiggins, Jacob Boswell and Craig Whitfield.
Finishing second in their age group were Andrew Smith and Alex Cartlidge.
A special page has been added with details of local players who competed in this year's Gigafinal.
My thanks to Traci for the details.

| Terafinal success for local players |
|
24 August
I don't have all the details yet, but Traci Whitfield tells me that a number of you did really well at the Terafinal over the weekend.
Congtratulations to Jacob Boswell who scored 4 points against some of the very best players in the country.
Well done to Craig Whitfield, who was in equal first place right up until the very last game.
A win would have secured him a share of the overall winner's title, but the result of his final game went the wrong way.
In the Challengers A section,
Skye Wiggins finished on 6 points, Leo Tsoi scored 12 and took a prize home with him.
Matthew Fergusson finished with 7.
Also doing well in the A section was Ashwin Kalyana.
In the Challengers B section,
Andrew Smith (competing in his last Terafinal) was a prize winner with 13 points.
Andrew Fergusson (Matthew's younger brother) won a U9 prize.
Aloysius Lip finished with 12 points and won a prize, as did his sister Philomena.
My apologies if I have missed your name.
I'll include details as they become available.
Well done to everyone who took part in the UK Chess Challenge this year, especially if you reached the Megafinal and Gigafinal.
Congratulations to EVERYONE who went to the Terafinal.
We are really proud of you all.

| Well done Leo |

I am very proud to be able to tell you we have a sixth player who did so well he qualified for the Terafinal, Leo Tsoi.
There was a slight mix up with information, but I'm pleased to be able to add Leo's name.
Well done Leo !

| Well done St Edward's |
|
8 July
Congratulations must also go to the players from St Edward's.
Out of all the teams that started the Yateley National Schools Championships this year, the skills of the St Edward's players helped their team reach a place in the final 16 of this popular competition.
Well done St Edwards!.

| Winning an award |
|
30 June
I'm not sure if young players will be interested in something called the Player or Personality of the year - especially if it's a grown-up who receives it.
In this case, the award was presented to me yesterday evening.
As part of the presentation, Traci Whitfield explained that it was to recognise how I've helped players like you by doing what I've done with this website.
Also, to recognise how my support and involvement has helped make a significant difference to local chess.
But what really matters is you.
Good chess!
