London Junior Championships Details may change slightly from year to year, but this guide is intended to give you an idea of what to expect if you are interested in taking part in the London Junior Championships.

Introduction
This competition is held in London in December each year.
For skillful players, results from the Under 12 Major section of the London Junior Championship count towards selection for the England Under 11 team trials.
The Getting selected box in the right hand column of this page tells you how the Under 12 Major section is organised.
If you're not familiar with the England trials, take a look at How to qualify.
Besides the Under 12 section, it has a mixture of two and three day championships for other age groups.
The two day championships are Under 8, under 10, and Under 14.
The three day championships are: Under 12, Under 16 and Under 18/21.

| Under 8 Championship |

29 & 30 December
To take part in this two day Championship, you should have scored at least 4 points out of 6 games in the events listed on the entry form, or www.ljcc.co.uk
 Rate of play
You have 45 minutes in each game to make all your moves.
You will play 7 games in all.

| Under 12 Championship |

28 to 30 December
Major section
To take part in the Major section of this three day championship, you should have scored at least 4½ points out of 6 games in any of the events listed on the entry form, or www.ljcc.co.uk
Minor section
To take part in the Minor section, you should have scored 3½ or 4 points out of 6 in one of the same listed events.
Rate of play
You have to make at least 36 moves in 60 minutes, followed by a 20 minute quickplay finish.
You will play 9 games in all.

28 to 30 December
Rate of play
You have to make 30 moves in 90 minutes, followed by a 30 minute quickplay finish.
You will play 6 games in all.

 Refreshments.
In 2007, the canteen was available from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.
A variety of snacks were available from 4.00 pm.

11 & 12 December
Major section
To take part in the Major section, you should have scored at least 4½ points out of 6 in any of the events listed on the entry form, or www.ljcc.co.uk
Minor section
To take part in the Minor section, you should have scored 3½ or 4 points out of 6 in one of the same listed events.
Rate of play
You have to make at least 36 moves in 45 minutes, followed by a 15 minute quickplay finish.
You will play 7 games in all.

| Under 14 Championship |

11 & 12 December
Rate of play
You have to make at least 30 moves in 60 minutes (1 hour), followed by a 20 minute quickplay finish.
You will play 6 games in all.

| Under 18/21 Championship |
|
28 to 30 December
To take part in this three day (FIDE rated) championship, you need an ECF grade of 160 or higher, or have a full or partial FIDE rating in the October 2007 listing.
Rate of play
You have to make at least 40 moves in 2 hours, followed by a 30 minute quickplay finish.
You will play 6 games in all.
